How many of us use our technology to relax and unwind. It sound easy doesn't it. Just to kick back on the couch, Shoes off. Socks off and flicking your way through the latest facebook posts or having a look at what's trending on twitter. When you work in the technology industry sometimes the last thing you want to look at is another screen. If you have spent the best part of your day sat at a desk in front of your computer getting the laptop or tablet out when you get home is the last thing on your mind. Technology can be a great way to relax and it can be much, much more than just wasting away on Facebook. All work and no play makes Johnny a dull boy or so they say. So I find that taking small breaks during the day actually makes me more productive in the long run but that doesn't mean I need to take a step back from the tech.. Here are some great ways you can be using your technology to relax instead of just working.

I personally didn't think I would like audiobooks. I love to read. I’m a huge Hunter S Thompson fan and I’m really into Stephen King right now. That’s just because the new It is coming out soon. When things get too much I’ll sit down at the dining room table and read a book with some coffee. A friend of mine suggested that I give audiobooks a try and I love them. I put them all on my phone so I can listen to them through the day. On the way to work I’ll bang on the Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy narrated by Stephen Fry. During the day if I’m doing something repetitive I’ll get the headphones on and start off again at where I left off. Audiobooks are great for that. I would recommend them to anyone who loves to read but struggles to find the time. If you don't fancy giving it a go then you should check out these Audible discount a go.

Mobile Gaming

No depending on how frustrated you get gaming this one can be great or the worst thing ever. Just depends on what type of person you are. Mobile gaming is a great way to unwind. I find myself playing a lot of mobile RPG (role playing games) especially things like Final Fantasy. There is one downside however. Microtransactions. Many of these games are free to download but if you want to progress faster you need to use real money to in game money to speed up the time you need to wait. You can still progress through the game without this but at a much slower pace. II use this to my advantage during the day. As a freelancer I find myself taking micro breaks during the day and playing a little bit of my RPG’s on my phone. I’ll log in and set my task up for later on when I get home. Strategically timing everything it works away during the time that I work. Little breaks like this help me to get through the workload quicker. It’s amazing what giving your eyes a rest will do.

Did you know that around 80% of traffic on the internet is based around video. Did you also know that YouTube is the world's second biggest search engine next to google. Youtube takes over my lunch breaks and is the perfect way to relax and forget about the tasks ahead. I subscribe to loads of channels such as WatchMojo, The Angry Video Game Nerd and CinemaSins. The best thing about YouTube is it is completely free. You can watch all this great stuff for free on a computer, mobile phone, tablet or even your smart television using the YouTube app. As much as I love Netflix and Prime, YouTube has something for everyone and I find myself making playlists of stuff I want to watch later on in the day.
